Removals Hints & Tips - Tips to make your removals go smoothly
Parking
If you have yellow lines or parking bays outside your property, parking may be a problem. Parking dispensation will be required, or 'adhoc' arrangements needed. Generally, only the home owner can arrange this, though it's worth giving the removal company a call to see if they can help with contacts.
Books and records
Some of the heaviest smaller items you will move. We suggest using our
archive boxes
for these items. Clearly label all boxes with their contents and the room from which they came.
Clothes in Wardrobes
Pop all of your small effects from the wardrobes into some
smaller boxes
, remembering to label them well! You can either flat pack your clothes into boxes or, if you're worried about creasing, hang them upright in one of our
wardrobe boxes
.
Lamp Shades
These should be packed separately into boxes to avid them getting crushed.
Plants
Pack only 5 or 6 smaller plants into a box ensuring that some packing material is placed between the pots to prevent them from toppling over. Seal the box with the flaps up to give extra protection and to allow the plants to breath. You should inform your removals company of any plants that will remain upright and need special care. Also be ware that most removals insurance policies don't cover plants.
Refrigerators and Freezers
These should be emptied and defrosted prior to removal. On arrival in your new property, they should be left to settle for up to 12 hours before reconnection.
Cookers
Gas and Electric cookers can be disconnected by the householder but, if in doubt, seek professional advice. Clean off all grease, particularly from the exterior of all appliances. Remove any loose fittings from the cooker and pack separately. The glass base plate from your microwave oven should also be removed and packed separately.
Washing Machines
These should be disconnected and any contents removed. We suggest disconnecting the machine 24 hours prior to your move, allowing the pipes to rest in a bucket overnight. This should ensure the removal of residue water.
Children & Pets
Loading a removals van can be hazardous. Keep the kids and the pets as far aware from the removals staff as possible!
